Ataxia is a neurological disease that I have had for about 28 years. Symptoms that arise are double vision, slurred speech, balance problems, lack of coordination, fatigue, wide gait, and having difficulty with writing and eating. I began showing symptoms when I was around 22. When I first went to get it checked out, the general internist did not know what it was and referred me to a neurologist. That is when my “voyage” to find out what I was dealing with began. I have been treated with steroids, had spinal taps and even tried acupuncture! I also went to The Mayo Clinic where, after so many years of wondering, was told that I had cerebellar degeneration.
